Earlier this year, Palisades Charter High School (Pali High) suffered devastating losses in the Palisades Fire, destroying classrooms and displacing students. Over 500 students and 11 staff members lost their homes, and the entire school community was forced back to online learning.

Pali High serves a diverse student body from 100+ ZIP codes across Los Angeles, with over 27% qualifying for free and reduced lunch. Now, the school must relocate 2,500+ students and staff to a temporary facility, a costly effort exceeding insurance and available funding.

As Pali High works toward rebuilding, we have the chance to help create a welcoming and inspiring space for students. Your generosity—whether through donations or essential supplies—makes a profound impact on their recovery.

Thank you for being part of this important effort. Your tax-deductible donation to the Raise Pali campaign supports relocation and recovery efforts. Palisades Charter High School is a 501(c)(3) public charity

What would it mean to have a classroom full of students again?

Everything - that's why I am a teacher- it is not the same to teacher through a computer screen.

What have you done to keep students motivated?

I am trying to teach as closely as possible to what I would do live and in person.

What do you miss about being on the Pali campus?

I have been at Pali since 1996 - not being able to go there simply breaks my heart.

What would it mean to have a classroom full of students again?

I would love it.

What have you done to keep students motivated?

Games, fun assignments, music.

What do you miss about being on the Pali campus?

Seeing my students and teacher friends.

What would it mean to have a classroom full of students again?

To teach a classroom full of students again would mean everything. I'd finally be able to do my job again. Teaching on Zoom is approximation of teaching in person but it can't capture the energy of students teaching and learning from one another.

What have you done to keep students motivated?

I hope that I've get my students motivated by giving them choices, opportunities to talk to each other, and 1-on-1 meetings just check in and say hi.

What do you miss about being on the Pali campus?

I miss the noise. It's so quiet on Zoom.

What would it mean to have a classroom full of students again?

It means that I can tell when my students need more time to grasp a concept, when they are having a bad day, and I have the pleasure of chatting with them again before class, when they stop by during lunch, or even just sharing a smile on campus.

What have you done to keep students motivated?

I asked UCLA school of engineering to host the makerspace pod, have a daily update in class that includes uplifting Pali news and stories, invite students to choose who they want to work with in breakout rooms, play music, share contest information with students, ask them how they are each class, showed them my dogs on zoom, go to athletics when I can, and reassure them to the best of my ability.

What do you miss about being on the Pali campus?

Saying good morning to my neighbor Vidi Torres, hearing seagulls after lunch, the happy chatter of students, meetings with Students Supporting Israel (I’m the sponsor), sharing fashion tips with students, and eating lunch with my son (currently a sophomore) and his friends. I miss my tacky Elvis lamp and my antiques.

What would it mean to have a classroom full of students again?

It would be heaven.

What have you done to keep students motivated?

Doing my best to keep them engaged. Guest speakers, working with dialect coaches, getting together after hours for in-person rehearsals.

What do you miss about being on the Pali campus?

The people, the energy, the beautiful campus. There's a vibe on the Pali campus that just feeds the soul.

What would it mean to have a classroom full of students again?

A classroom full of students again would mean connections, collaborating voices, laughter, eye contact, table group work, and whole student engagement.

What have you done to keep students motivated?

I have used music, break out rooms, humor, collaborative group teaching.

What do you miss about being on the Pali campus?

The buzz of students chatting, the connections with other teachers, standing and walking, the tall trees up against the mountain, the warmth of my classroom.
